This field guide was developed from real remote Alaska raft-hunting experience. It covers basic oar-frame rowing, loaded-raft control, reading water, safe landings, common river hazards, crew preparation, and the decisions that matter when help may be hours or days away.

Use this guide as an introductory field reference before traveling or hunting on an Alaska river. It is not a substitute for hands-on rowing instruction, swiftwater-rescue training, or river-specific scouting.
